I have been using this iron for a couple of weeks now and I love it! Hands down one the best irons I've personally owned. Very true to it's name, it has the feel of a nice, heavier weight iron and is very reminiscent of older "classic" irons. It glides very easily, has one dial to adjust the temperature and doesn't leak. It fills easily and everything I've ironed with it so far has been nice and pressed. So simple to use- fill it and plug it in nothing fancy about it. I have also noticed that this iron doesn't sputter and leave watermarks like myolder iron used to. Highly recommended!

I was excited to buy an iron that had a nice weight to it and seemed sturdy and durable. I loved the auto shutoff because as soon as I picked the iron up it was right back without a lot of resetting and delay. The steam function worked great! I see in the reviews that some people were complaining that the iron leaked. I didn't have this problem. However, I quickly became discouraged by the sticky sole plate. How in the world can I press anything when the iron will not move? It is a serious workout to keep the thing moving and encountering a seam brings it to a dead stop! I am so frustrated. I can not recommend this iron because of the frustrating stickiness or roughness of the plate! It feels like there is glue or sandpaper on the bottom of the iron when I try to move it!

Nothing beats the classics!

By

from Chandler, AZ, United States

Comments:

This is a heavy duty winner with me! I don't have to press down on the iron, it glides smoothly, and decreases the time it takes to perfectly press everything!

My favorite, Black & Decker Classic Iron!

By

from Glen Allen, VA, United States

Comments:

I received the Black & Decker Classic Iron from the Spectrum Brands First Look Community, totally free for testing the Iron at home and provide my honest reviews in exchange for the free product. Just after opening the package I realized how great quality the iron is. The iron is so easy to use, as it has so simple operation. I could iron a variety of garments so easily, and could set and control the temperatures so accurately each time. Another great thing about this Iron is that it is inexpensive but works as great as the expensive ones. I love using this iron so much. After I started using this Iron, my life has become so easy, and also I could save a lot of money as I iron all my garments myself these days. All my garments of my house becomes wrinkle-free in minutes, these days. Thank You Spectrum Brands First Look Community for offering me to test such a great quality Black & Decker Classic Iron. I just love using it, and I can definitely say that I will be using it for life.

Great classic retro iron!!

By

from Milwaukee, WI, United States

Comments:

I love the look of this iron. Reminds me of when I was a kid, my parents had it. It is a great iron. Has an option to turn the steam feature on or off. The cord swivels at 180 degrees which is awesome when ironing dress shirts, you do not have to keep moving the cord around. It also has auto shut off which is great for those mornings when you are rushing and may forget to turn off or unplug. I love that it is made with heavy duty aluminum, which makes for a long lasting iron. Overall, great iron.

I got the b&d classic iron about a week ago and i have used it non stop, it works great and i love the steam features because it helps me get this nasty wrinkles out of all of my husband's work pants and same thing with my boys pants, so far its doing an amazing job unlike my old one. With the classic iron i do the job fast and i found my self ironing more constantly. Crazy i know! (Will not let me upload more than one pic)

A great, reliable iron

By

This iron reminded me of the one my grandmother used. It worked perfectly and was easy to use and store away. It was a nice smooth run across the blouse and pants I was using it on. A wonderful product!

Retro, Rugged, & Real

By

from Boston, MA, USA

Comments:

Love the weight, the feel and, especially, the look. The iron highly resembles all my stainless steel appliances but at the fraction of the cost. Its' "personality" takes me back a few decades. My only critique is that Black & Decker #at least I've yet to find# doesn't have an oven or refrigerator to match. All we'd be missing then is Ward, June, Wally and "The Beav" Cleaver.

Old school and loving it

By

from New York

Comments:

My grandmother and I love this iron. These newer irons dont have any weight to them which makes ironing harder and take longer. We both wish there was a way to get the iron repaired after they break but we dont mind getting a replacement since its been a staple in her home for over 40 years.

This iron is the easiest ...

By

from Oklahoma

Comments:

This iron is the easiest iron I have ever used for ironing wrangler jeans. When you have finished ironing these jeans they look just like they came from the cleaners. No other iron has ever produced such a good looking pair of starched jeans. That is why I am ordering a new one for my own use here at home.

Love it

By

from Watertown, MA, USA

Comments:

we have many irons here, yes some are Black and Decker newer versions. When the iron I love gave way I didn't hesitate to go to the internet and find a replacement. The others are still here but I only use the one that I feel comfortable with. No offence but the newer ones do not have the firmness as the one I use. Thank you for not replacing the old with the new. sincerely, Sister Maureen Flanagan

Great for crafts!

By

from Whiteville, NC, United States

Comments:

I received this product for free. I normally do not use an iron on clothes but I do use an iron for craft projects. My boyfriend and I have been looking for a heavier iron to use on perler bead projects. We loved the weight of the iron as well as how quickly it warmed up. The downside to the iron is that all the metal heats up so it can be very hot to the touch. I would recommend this iron to anyone that does a lot of craft projects that require a heavy iron.

Steam problem

By

from Pensadola, Florida

Comments:

This is the only iron I've used since it came on the market years ago. I've just replaced the old one that I wore out with a new one which I finally located at a big box store. But, this one doesn't steam properly. It won't steam for a few minutes, then it begins to spit water on the garments. I am unhappy that it doesn't work like the Classics I've known before. Please don't discontinue this iron, but please fix it. I hate the new style irons.

Love the look of this product. Good weight and feels good in your hand. It's nice to have an iron that *looks* like an iron and not a tennis shoe! It also works very well.

great, basic iron.

By

from Las Vegas, NV, USA

Comments:

I had owned this iron as one of my first appliance purchases And loved it. I used to use the iron to put sharp creases in my uniform shirts and trousers. This appliance also took a great deal of abuse(unlike later models) and could drop to the floor and not leak.

It's just an iron

By

from Craven, NC

Comments:

After going through two drippy Rowenta irons, and other irons full of features, I've gone back to the old basic one that my grandmother used back in the '70's. For me it's a great iron ... it has enough weight to press out wrinkles, the steam works, the stainless steel bottom slides over the material, and best of all, it doesn't drip. If all you want is an iron, then this is the best one for your hard earned money.

Excited, then disappointed.

By

from Albany, NY, United States

Comments:

When I first got this iron I was impressed with the weight of it. Feels good in the hands just like an old fashioned iron. I must admit that I didn't read the instructions before giving it a try and noticed water leaking when I tried to use the steam function. After reading the instructions, I still encountered this problem. I still use the iron, just without water so because of that I'm disappointed. If it didn't have this issue it would be a great iron.

This product has one bad feature.

By

from Auburn, ME

Comments:

We purchased The Classic Iron approximately 1 1/2 years ago. It served us well until recently. We noticed the iron would run hot, then cold. We determined the pivoting cord shorts-out. Just as products are designed in todays' market-designed to throw away and purchase new. I am from a generation that repairs and keeps products running. I could not detach the pivoting cord to determine the nature of the short.

disappointed

By

from Portland OR

Comments:

After trying many expensive irons, I was hoping to return to the basic iron of irons only to find that you have reduced it to an automatic shut off. This is such an inconvenient feature to a dressmaker who needs the iron to be on all the time. I don't know why the iron manufacturers think this is a good feature. At least give us to option to turn it off. Now I will have to look for another iron. I was so hoping to return to your basic wonderful iron.

I will never purchase again

By

from Montgomery, AL, United States

Comments:

I purchased this iron a few months ago, and the iron stopped working. This is my second time purchasing the exact iron. The first time it did the same thing, but I just thought I would try it again. The iron never make it to a year. The face of the iron is very sticky and messes up clothing.
