First off, read the manual before you plug in the microphone. It only takes a couple of minutes.I'm using a Win7 laptop with an SSD, which means that it's the quietest computer that I can find.I am using this microphone for voiceovers for videos and for future studio use (voice only). After reading the instructions, I attached the microphone to a mic stand, ran the cable from the microphone to my PC.This is a substantial microphone in terms of size and weight. Not massive, but it's larger and heavier than you would expect. It took about 30 seconds for Win7 to recognize the mic and install the drivers. I adjusted the microphone level.I did a test reading for about 20 seconds, but the mic was reversed. Stupid me! It picked up my voice and the TV in the background.Test reading two. Turned off the TV, turned around the mic and was very impressed by the sound quality.I'm recording directly into Sony Sound Forge v9.0D and have found it to meet my needs.I don't plan on using the mini-tripod. I will use a mic stand so when I do my voiceovers, I can stand and move my arms and have some freedom of movement. In the attached photo, I've left plenty of slack at the USB connector, and I used Velcro to keep the cord against the mic stand pole. I also replaced the original USB cable with one that is about 12 feet long, which lets me move my laptop far out of the range of the audio. In my test audio, you can hear the dog playing with his squeaky toy. He will be removed from the room during actual voiceover work.Dislikes: The extremely bright blue LED. I slipped a label maker label over it. You can still see the blue, but it doesn't blind you. I tried the headphone jack. I need to do some more testing.I want a longer USB cable to move it further from my computer. I replaced it with a much longer cable.

The Pros here really don't outweigh the cons. This product has poor durability, so bad that I think the one that I bought was manufactured improperly. I'm not exaggerating when I say that after 4 months of light usage, the stand provided with the microphone literally broke at every joint. When I opened it up, I was confused as to why the setup didn't work properly, but then I realized that the grooves inside the base of the microphone weren't cut deep enough to screw into stand, so it had to be balanced very precariously on my desk whenever I used it. The flickering blue light is a bit irritating, and was inconsistent when recognizing whether or not the device was functioning at any given time. The USB 2.0 type B port in the base that was used to connect microphone to the cable ended up putting the mic out of usage when the prongs in the port ended up bending after being plugged in. I got the port repaired, but unfortunately, now no device will even recognize the microphone as a microphone. The Microphone promised limited interference, but the only way to prevent it from being overwhelmingly present in my recordings was to put a stocking over the Mic, or to use a pop screen. The sound quality is generally good, but I could easily find it in another product for cheaper. It was easy enough to use, but what with all the problems I encountered, I wouldn't even recommend this product to someone new to recording.

Excellent Microphone for Price
from North Carolina, USA
For $100, this is an excellent microphone. It doesn't have as many features as the $300-$600 ones though. I have used this microphone for almost 2 years. I use this is a YouTube recording studio setup, and it does everything I need it to. It works with Windows and Mac very cleanly. All I had to do was plug it in, enable it in the settings, and it worked great. There is no static in the background of the audio. Great microphone and audio quality. I highly recommend this mic.The mic is very sensitive to clicks and taps on a desk, so I use a microphone stand and pop filter to keep it from picking up on every mouse and keyboard click.

Money well spent, great mic
from Anchorage Alaska
Great quality mic for voice work. I produce television and interment programming and love the versatility of the mic. Use it as a table mic, scissor arm or boom. Full sound, deep and rich. My money well spent on this addition to my equipment. Only one negative - cheap stand included broke during assembly. Still worth it without the stand.
This is everything you will need
You can't scream into this microphone from close distance, otherwise the audio quailty is fantastic and can be compared to the AT2020. The only reason not to buy this would be if you want more flexibility with an xlr mic. Oterwise there is no reason to buy any other usb mic than this one. A lot of people complain about the build quality which I have has no problem with. The stand is not good, but you can just get a boom arm, and besides, the stand does work.

from San Francisco Bay Area, CA, USA
Hi. I love this mic... for the first day until I turned off my computer. Then I turned it on and plugged in the microphone. There was a notification saying, "The last usb device that you plugged in is not recognized by windows." I looked all around the internet and nothing. I even looked here. I have windows 8 and I updated it today. After that it was unrecognizable. I'm frustrated! Please help me I need help. Thank you.

Terrible background noise!
from South Carolina, SC
I've had this mic for a while now. Probably 6-8 months, and all of the sudden it's starting to be all weird with my fan in the back ground.*Note I bought a pair of studio headphones for my computer and it might be the headphones, but i'm not sure. The first few months i've had the mic I could have my fan on all day on the highest setting and you could barely hear it, that was using my default apple headphones that came with the iPhone. Now that I bought Behringer HPS 3000's the audio on the mic picks up my fan over me. Even on the lowest setting. And even with it off you can hear the noise my computer makes. I don't under stand what I did or what happened to make the mic pick so much noise up!So I might as well ask for support or something to help me fix this issue.Other than the mic picking up things it really never had or should be, in my opinion, it's great. Very easy to use HOWEVER, the initial tri-pod desk stand that comes with it is very flimsy and falls over if shake your desk or something. So I bought a 'On Stage Stands' microphone stand which works great.
great mic. stand not great
from New York, NY, USA
Bought the mic over a year ago but didn't use it until earlier this summer for voiceover and other recording. The mic is easy to use and is easily recognizable by my Mac. The headphone connection is very helpful. I love it.The stand, though, is not good. The thread stripped far too easily and I'm trying to find a way to replace it. I don't love it. At all. This would have been a five star review if the stand hadn't failed.(apologies. review was mistakenly posted by me as a comment)
I just got this microphone and when I went to plug it in my audio coming through my headphones stopped working. I tried rebooting, changing headphones, unplugging the mic but still no sound except for skype. I have windows 8 and I noticed that there was no setup info for windows 8. Overall it is a good mic if you have anything but windows 8
Great for Practice Vocals
from Libertyville, IL, USA
If you are curious about doing voice-overs and want to record test tracks, this portable mic is great. I've had success using it in "live" environments as well as when hooking up to a laptop for recording slide notes.I also use it for webcasts at my desk - the room's "live" with background noise. The mic seems to help limit some of the background sound issues because of it's cardioid pickup. If you have a sound booth or recording environment, choose one of the better Audio-Technica mics (AT2020, 2035 or 2041).The price is great. However, the quality is a bit dodgy. The first one I received stopped working immediately. The second one is still going strong. Two things irritate me about this mic. The headphone jack is nice idea, but not practical. Every time I touch the headphone cable, the sound goes right to the mic. And, the volume buttons might as well not be there. They rattle and feel very cheap.
Overall a Good Device
I have used this device for six months, but I do travel with the device and have found that this device is not meant to travel. The small prongs at the base used for the USB connection are not meant to be plugged in over and over again even though I am very careful. Even going as far as purchasing a separate carry case for the microphone to go into. The USB cord now makes intermittent connections with the four prongs causing it to disconnect with the computer if the cord is not positioned just right, and is not hit accidentally during recording.

Very sensitive to noise
By ComradeMuffin the youtuber

This mic was bought to do gaming commentaries on for my YouTube channel. I thought it looked like a good mic but if you just raise your voice it like cuts off the sound. Also the mic is way to heavy for the stand. It always tips over. Horrible mic. I should return it
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Great Mic... while it lasts
from Orange, CA
I got this mic 3 months ago at a brick and mortar store. It worked great with no problems at all for skype and video recording. WAY better sound quality than my built-in mic or headsets.Yesterday, it stopped working properly. Now it just records loud static. I tried using different USB cables and different computers and different recording software... all with the same result: STATIC.

Stopped picking up frequencies above 600-800 Hz
By Nick Name
Microphone was fine for awhile. Now recently it has stopped picking up frequencies above 600-800 Hz.In the attached image you can see the spectrum for a voice clip I recorded. (Played back in foobar2000)It sounds extremely muffled, like I'm speaking through a door.Hoping AT will stand behind their warranty.

The sound quality is terrible,it doesn't even sound as good as my laptop's built in microphone not that you can even hear the quality because the volume is so quiet. I maxed the volume on a couple different machines and it is still practically inaudible. The mic also has a rattle coming from inside that was audible when i took it out of the box. I would suggest avoiding this mic unless you are looking to buy a very expensive baby toy.

I doesn't even work with my computer! I tried everything. Overall, this was a complete waste of my time and I am better off buying a new microphone.
Driver Error with Windows 8
After buying this product to my dismay I found that while it worked on my laptop running Windows 7, Windows 8 could not find a driver for it. I am extremely dissatisfied with this as I was planning on mainly using the mic with my desktop.
from Little Rock, AR, USA
I bought this device only to find out it's not going to work with my PC. I use a different microphone from another brand and it works properly on my computer. This seemed to be the only thing that gives me the error of "USB Device Not Recognized" When I've seen this equipment work it is amazing but only when you can get it to work. I will never buy from this manufacturer again.
from heading back to radio shack to return it
assembling the device a metal ring fell out of the base and no explanation for how to re-attach it. the base won't screw back together without it. somehow managed to get it to work but why it couldn't just be a regular screw on base would be the way to go.looks beautiful, with the blue LED too. pressing the up/down arrows adjust the computer OUTPUT volume not the mic gain, which seemed odd to me.mac settings were easy to find just as in the manual, but nothing recording even though VU meters showed signal when i tapped the mic. useless toy.tried recording audio via quicktime and garageband. no audio input. waste of time and money plus now i have to go back, return it, and find another USB mic that will actually work for our office needs.
