Use as art, not necessarily as a timepie. We have vaulted 12-14ft ceilings in our great room, and I had a large triangular space over a double window that needed something. While in a local antique store that also sold new items, we saw a similar product and I liked the idea of it, though it was expensive. The price for this was terrific on Clock Superstars. Due to its height, & because of DST we weren't to keen on having too borrow our neighbors 10ft ladder just to adjust time 2X a year. However, we did put a battery in the clock works. The clock works jiggled inside. the the hands started moving, but at times the hour and minute hand rubbed against each other. In all fairness, though our battery was good to 2014, we had had it a while and it may have been week, but when we hung it up, it was running. On a regular wall height, this would not be a problem. But as high as it is, we can't be bothered. I didn't really buy it for time - more of as a "sign" of a clock would be. It is for effect. It's always going to be 4:04 here and I am okay with that. With that in mind, I absolutely love it. I could try another battery and try bending the hands if it were at a reachable height. I did a lot of searching online and this was by far, the very best price. I am convinced this is the exact item I saw at an antique store and elsewhere on the web. It is heavy, sturdy, and very, very attractive. The time mechanism is made in China, and is typical of most new AA-battery clock works you find. There is a little black box that fits in from behind and connects to the hands. The metal on the clock - the pocket housing, if you will, is a very dark bronze. It is well constructed otherwise. There is one of those upside-down light bulb-shaped slots to hang on a nail or hook and then it slides down into place for secure fastening. Use an anchor if going into drywall, or if you are placing on a non-stud area.I've included a side view so you can see the thickness.
Beautiful clock and Quick Service. I recently moved into a new house with a built-in shelf that was perfect for a tambour clock. After shopping around, I found this Howard Miller clock and it is just what I wanted. The clock is beautiful and it was delivered ahead of schedule, well packed and in perfect condition. I love the dual chime feature and the ability to turn the chime off at times it is not convenient. Also, the clock face is easy to read, even from a distance. I'm very happy with the clock and the customer service.
