collect rain water from the roof. These are not my first rain diverters. I moved to FL and brought my rain barrels. These are the best way to collect rain to water my gardens and save the well and electricity. As they age the rust makes it more difficult to open and close. Steel wool helps to remove the rust.

Worried about water supply from Springfield IL

Good reuse. The rain barrel is a reused/reimagined olive barrel which has been painted. They drill holes in the appropriate places and include plastic spigots and plugs, also a piece of screen which you put under the lid to keep out debris and mosquitoes. It's a great use for something which would be chipped up and thrown away. It's not unattractive, the plastic is food grade and durable, and I look forward to using these for years. It's unfortunate that I don't have a company in my neighborhood that has big plastic food barrels to throw away so I could make my own, and I have to pay over $100 to have this shipped across the country, but it's a great idea and a good product.

Great Amer. Rain Barrel

The Great American Rain Barrel Company (G.A.R.B.) has been recycling an old idea for over two decades. In 1990, two local school teachers were looking to recycle barrels into a water collection system modeled after those they had seen in English Gardens. Their search for the perfect barrel led them to our family run importing company of Mediterranean specialty foods. The barrel selected was a large, high quality food grade 60 gallon container that brought olives from Spain. What had to be done became obvious. Even then we knew recycling our barrels to store precious rain water was the right thing to do. We couldn’t imagine chipping up all those barrels and sending them to some land?ll somewhere. So the Great American Rain Barrel Company was formed. We stand by our product and attribute our success to a strong community of like-minded citizens who not only care for their homes and gardens, but their communities and the earth that they live in.
