Very good fax machine with one drawback. This fax machine was bought to replace a four year old entry-level Brother fax machine that had finally died. (It died from overuse: There were only 10 people using it when we bought it, but 30 people when it died.) So we upgraded to a more sturdy machine this time, and the 4100e is definitely doing a great job for us so far. The drawback? Well, Brother considers it a feature. If it runs out of paper, it will continue to receive faxes until it fills-up its internal memory, and then print them as soon as you add paper. The memory is quite large, and it is able to hold somewhere around 500 typical pages. If that memory fills up, then it will simply stop answering the phone to prevent any further faxes from arriving. This is all good! BUT...if you don't want to print those faxes that have piled-up in memory, there's no way to get rid of them! You MUST put in paper and let them print. Sure, you can flip the paper over and only waste half of your paper, but you're still wasting all the toner and all the wear-and-tear on the machine. Unplug it? Nope! Brother thought of that too. To guard against losing faxes in memory due to power failure, it will keep everything intact for up to 4 days without power. So if you REALLY want to scrap the faxes in memory, you can unplug it for four days, and HOPE that's long enough! Why they didn't design a way to clear the memory is beyond me. If they were paranoid that someone would accidentally flush the memory, then put a couple of "ARE YOU SURE?" hoops that you have to jump through on it too.
Excellent Purchase. I hope this lasts longer than my old mfc 8220. Good machine. Copies well - (although I had to call back to speak to another Rep & how it didn't copy - she told me that if there isn't a check on control panel w/ Copier & there wasn't - she walked me through the steps to take). Faxes well (spoke to another Rep and he said just plug the phone into the phone symbol on back of machine - wrong. I read the book and realized that I had to plug into Jack & Line on back of machine) All in all I think this is a good machine. Copies well, faxes well.
Great Product. This was a purchase to replace a Brother Fax machine that was 20+ years old, which proves that the Brother Product Line is high quality and will be used long term. This was an upgrade which provided quicker submissions and printing of the incoming faxes. I have been very pleased with the purchase including the quick set-up of the unit.
Second Machine. This is the second machine we have owned. The first one lasted about 4 years. My husband uses it mainly for the laser printer. He goes through a lot of paper in one year. It copies fast and does a great job. Faxing has not been in issue. We mainly fax about twice a year. The only drawback is that amount of power it uses. The lights on the same circuit dim until the machine is turned off. Also, I would have liked an on/off button.
Works great. We just needed a new fax machine. Did not want a fax/scanner/copier/printer as I don't want all four actions tied up in one machine. So just as a fax machine, this machine is perfect. It is every thing they said it was. Incoming faxes and out-going fax receipts are quick and crystal clear. Very easy to use and very easy to set up. As I started to set it up, I had a question on fax receipts. I called and got a knowledgeable and friendly rep who ended up walking me thru the entire set up in less than 10 minutes. I would definitely buy another Brother fax machine.
Upscale Model. I have been in our current office 12 years and it is the best fax machine our office has ever purchased. This model holds paper on the bottom , and faxes up to 60 sheets plus. We have had this unit almost one year and it pulls each sheet individually (so you don't loose information) and it is quick. One touch works fine. The sleep feature is a little distracting because it will redial in sleep mode but so it does some work even while it says sleep mode. I would purchase this model again.
IntelliFax-4750e. My wife used this machine for several years on her Win XP computer. I used it for a year on my Win 7 laptop. It was a reliable printer with good quality output. The fax worked flawlessly and gave a receipt, which was handy. Then I had trouble when I bought a new computer with Win 8. Later I upgraded to Win 8.1 and the issues have been solved.
