I purchased this vacuum after a lot of research online. It took about three weeks to arrive due to back order but it was worth the wait! It is very simple to use and light which makes it really nice for vacuuming the stairs. The only negatives are the cost of the recommended cloth bags and the accessory cover seems stiff. I would definitely recommend this to any friends or family!

I purchased this vacuum in Dec 2015 at a great price, to be used primarily in my family room where I have a pellet stove. (My primary vacuum is a Rainbow and it doesn't do well with ash and wood dust). I was impressed with the silence of the motor--the only noise you hear is the rush of the air being sucked into the hose-- and the amount of suction. I liked the attachments, especially that both the floor and furniture brushes used natural fiber so they would not scratch wood surfaces. It seemed to work great. The disappointment came when I recently changed the as-received vacuum bag. The bag itself was nice and clean on the outside so I assumed it was doing its "hepa" job. But the entire bag compartment was covered in a layer of fine dust--in particular where the bag attaches to the basket and hose. The owners manual warns about properly installing the bag and had I been the one to do it, I would have blamed myself. But this was a factory installation. The only time I've ever seen this much dust having escaped the bag was with a old single ply bag for a Hoover Celebrity, circa 1984. The issue is apparently that foam "gasket" which does a poor job of sealing the connection between the hose and the bag. A poorly thought out design which could be easily remedied by extending the end of the hose so it protrudes farther into the bag. Anyway, I wiped out the compartment with a damp rag and installed a new bag. Will use it off and on for the next couple of months and if I get the same dust by-pass results as with the factory installed bag, the vacuum will be exiled to cleaning the car and the basement.

Great vacuum for the price
By Mr. Consumer
from Roswell, GA, USA
I bought this a couple years ago, and haven't had any problems with it. It does a great job cleaning and even the spinning brush attachment works as expected whereas it doesn't on other vacuums I've tried. My only wish is that the power head would attach directly to the handle. That would make it a lot easier to use on carpeted stairs.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Much better than I expected
I needed to replace my old Panasonic canister vacuum with something that would remove pet fur from my carpets and furniture. I love this vacuum because it does just that. The dust bag holder has a handle on it so you can remove the basket with the full bag. The hose is shorter but that isn't a problem for me because the wand extends quit a bit. In all, I am glad I purchased this vacuum because it does a great job picking up the fur from my 2 Pomeranian's and 1 cat.

Best Vac We have ever owned
from Fargo, ND, USA
Have tried many brands of upright and canisters over the years. This model is far superior. light, very quiet, and has powerful suction. Have had this one for a year with almost daily use and no problems. Especially like the cord retraction device.
Formerly owned a Kenmore which was similar in design. Panasonic has made a quality vacuum with great suction power and ease of use. The tools store nicely in the vacuum and are easily accessible. The quality of the brushes are not as good as the Kenmore and I wish there was a bag full light otherwise not bad for the price.
Great vacuum cleaner
from Kentucky, USA
This is a typical European style vacuum that is quiet, light, and powerful. It comes with all the attachments neatly hidden inside the body of the main unit. It also come with a carpet brush that uses the same hose and all the floor attachments. The power cord for the carpet brush is inside the hose and the electrical connections are sturdy and easy to use. I only wish the hose was longer, as sometimes the main vacuum is too close to your feet. The electrical cord is in the body of the vacuum and retracts automatically - it could also be a little longer, as my rooms are large. The filters are HEPA certified and are inexpensive to replace. I really like the vacuum and it does a great job on both, hardwood and tile floors, as well as carpeted floors (the brush has height adjustments, making it effective on various thicknesses of carpets). Great price too!

I got this vacuum with in a week, which is phenominal for this area..It works great, does everything I was hoping..It almost seems too easy to use, I keep checking to make sure it is really running after struggling with my old machine...time will tell!
Nice unit, powerfull, convenient, light to use on stairs, very well made.
I would give it 10 stars if I could

I have owned 5 of these over the last 10 years and this will be my 7th because I bought 2. I use it every day, have many dogs and like a clean house... This model is the only one on the Market that makes sense and is user friendly!!!! The wand is slender at the front which makes it easy to get under furniture! It has GREAT suction and is a WORK HORSE! FYI this one is not like pushing a riding lawn mower to cut grass!!!
BEST VACUUM AND BEST SUCTION ! GREAT ON CAT FUR
WOW!This canister has it all and then some!I have 4 furry shedding cats and its a pain to keep up with the fur.this vac is murder on fur and any floor debris, and it never misses or spits it out,and their is no dust leakage due to the excellent Hepa filter and bags. This has all the attachment I could ever need onboardI I snapped it together in 10 minutes,it is very sturdy and well made, connections are good and tight. The hose is not flimsy and swivels ,so you get every spot. The heavy 3 prong plug and cord is so long, and i love the rewind feature as well as the super headlight.a canister is easier ti vacuum with, plus the large wheels make it easy to move.i recommend this fantastic vac!

My wife is very happy with the vacuum. It is mobile and has powerful suction. The only improvement she would suggest is if the vacuum could be lighter. Too early to tell the durability, however, all of the other Panasonic purchases we have made have been very durable products.

Very Good Vac
Very satisfied. (Tried a Hoover, used to be good. Now they are garbage. Authorized repair person said he would never buy one) Very good for pet hair. Almost too good as bags fill up quickly. Highly recommended.

Great vacuum for the money
from Mebane, NC
I would have given this vacuum five stars except for the fact that the floor brush is cumbersome. It has very little flexibility and the few number of bristles on the bottom make it necessary to use it at an angle. It has plenty of suction and is relatively easy to maneuver around furniture and corners. All in all I like it.

Overall excellent product, just wish the upholstery cleaning attachment had a bit more power. Brush driven by suction alone. Would prefer it to be powered. But still very satisfied with the vacuum.
Professional House Cleaner review
from Charlotte, NC, USA
So I clean houses for a living. I bought this vacuum for my own home to try out before I recommended for my clients to buy. My clients usually buy the things I recommend for them, I only recommend what I would use because I'm the one cleaning in their home. After trying it out here are the pros and cons (I'm pretty particular so I hope this helps) Pros: Suction is awesome Great on hard woods and on carpets Easy to use and great storage for the attachments Cons: The hose (not the electrical cord) is too short, I have to pull the vacuum along every time I take a step. (I have used other canisters that have longer hoses and they are amazing). When using just the wand, it is too short. You have to bend over or squat down to get corners, behind toilets etc. I have used others where the wand detaches closer to the floor brush so you can get corners while standing up. That feature is a must for me. The floor brush is kinda buiky making it harder to get near edges and into corners. The electrical cord isn't super long, but I don't really mind having to use several outlets. I'd rather the other things be fixed. I would love to help them design a better version, I love canister vacuums and am sad to have to send this one back.

I have had Panasonic vacuum cleaners for years, but this one has new features that I like - such as on-off switch on handle and easy storage of parts.
Replacement for 35 yr old Panasonic VC
My old canister vac, well used, just died and I replaced it with this model. Works great!
Great vacuum for the price!
Relatively light-weight, powerful suction, and lots of great features and attachments. It would be nice if there were a lower power switch, since the only two settings, "floor" and "carpet", are both too strong for vacuuming draperies and bed skirts, even with the adjustable suction feature in the completely open position. Bags are pretty expensive, too. Otherwise, it's a great vacuum, at least so far. We've always been satisfied with other Panasonic products, so we expect reliability to be good.
it was not brand new
Unfortunately it was not brand new. The bag was half full with kind of some dirt. How it could be i have recieved not absolutely new vacuum cleaner
from New Hampshire, USA
I purchased two CG-917's. Initially a good machine, it did the job. But on BOTH machines the plastic piece that connects the power head to the wand broke, completely severed, making the machines useless. Bought the vacuums in February and here I sit in August with expensive, broken, completely useless vacuums. As for help, ha ha. the first chat lady said not covered and ended the chat. Another lady wants me to go about 3 hours away to have it inspected by an approved shop. Sorry, that's a bit of an inconvenience. I am certain that for the money one can find a good vacuum that will hold up better than this defective machine. Don't buy it.
