Sanford Ink Corporation, owned by multinational giant Newell Rubbermaid, is the brand champion whose Sharpie pens and man hy more have become dominant worldwide. Frederick W. Redington and William H. Sanford, Jr. found Sanford Manufacturing Company in 1857 in Worcester, Massachusetts. The company focused on producing and selling ink and glue. They moved to Chicago, narrowly escaped the Great 1871 Fire, and in 1964 introduced the Sharpie. Today, Sharpie stands for far more than just markers and with the introduction of products like Liquid Pencil, Gel Highlighter, and Stained by Sharpie, Sharpie continues coming up with innovative ways for self-expression. Sanford's other brands are also well known like Berol, Expo, Uniball and Prismacolor.
